However, alternative systems that incorporate electrical float switches, pumps, or mechanical components should be inspected more frequently, generally once a year. It is important to have a service contract in place, especially for alternative systems that have mechanized parts.

Several factors influence the frequency of septic system pumping, including the size of the household, the amount of wastewater generated, the volume of solids present in the wastewater, and the size of the septic tank itself.
